 Disadvantaged Mac users desire MSN Messenger 6 features

When MSN Messenger 6 was launched earlier this year Mac users of the MSN Messenger software were already at a disadvantage and the introduction of all the sweet new features only widened the gap. A comparison of both versions and a cross reference showed that MSN Messenger for Mac shared only 8 of the 21 features available to MSN Messenger 6 for Windows. This puts MSN Messenger for Mac at only 38% compatability with the new Windows version. A group of us MSN Messenger users have got together to put a petition forward to Microsoft's Mac Business Unit (responsible for making MSN Messenger for Mac) in order to get a response. After almost 9 months of no replies in emails and no feedback from their support team, Mac Users have been left in the dark. 2690 signatures have been gathered at the time of writing, but we need a lot more to make a stand. Clcool, a 16 year-old artificial intelligence enthusiast, has created the digital ego called Jaedon. It's a moody bot (/mood) for MSN Messenger, capable of being taught by users directly or learning from facts on the fly. Jaedon has many commands including a block checker (/check), dictionary lookup (/define), web search (/google), lyrics finder (/lyrics) and can send e-mails (/mail).  MSN Messenger Belgium adds two new tabs

MSN Messenger users in Belgium will have noticed two new tabs to the left of their MSN Messenger when they logged in this morning. The heart-shaped icon links to MSN Dating, Microsoft's partnership with Match.com. The second one, a square smiley, is the logo of the Belgian Telenet ISP and links to nothing but a promotional message. If you're from Belgium and you've installed the latest custom MSN games patch you should be counting a total of 9 tabs now! If you don't see any tabs go to your Personal Settings and click on Privacy. Then untick "This is a shared computer so don't display my tabs". [Reported by: Yannick]

It's not much and certainly not very specific, but according to Apple Insider Mac users can expect MSN Messenger 4.0 to make its way to the market in the first half of 2004.

 Microsoft forces MSN-domain name transfer

Four months ago a lawyer appointed by Microsoft demanded many Dutch webmasters holding a domain name that included the word "MSN" to hand over their URLs to the owner of the trademark. Almost all of them complied, many "ingeniously" replacing the letters MSN with the next best 4-letter symbolization of the MSN Messenger community . Now Microsoft asked EveryWhere MSN's Paulo Taylor to pass his everywhere-MSN.com domain over to them because of trademark infringements. Contrary to misinformation out there, the request doesn't go as far as a forced shutdown of the web-based MSN client project. According to an article on Tech Critic, he's still negotiating with Microsoft over details of the transfer. We at Mess.be hope the service will continue at another Internet address!

This weekend I used one of the Jellitons as my display picture and I got so many positive comments on it I decided to upload a whole bunch of them into seperate category in the display pictures area. Credits go to DeViL who created these 23 fingerlicking display pictures based on the MSN Messenger mascotte. In fact, that's the same guy who once created the Mess.be forum icons and turned me into an emoticon. Ah... the forum... All of you who want it back raise your hand :p
