dwergs says ( 01 Feb 2003 ):

NickEXP!, the add-on for Plus! 2.0 has already been updated to v2.0 and the changes are impressive. New features include a nickname styler, a forbidden words by-pass, gradient text and multi-coloured backgrounds. Great work Taz & A-W! Download this nickname tool but don't forget you and your hypothetical contact need Messenger Plus! 2.0 for them to show.

ActiveBuddy wants consumers to pay for bots
ActiveBuddy wants consumers to pay for bots

dwergs says ( 01 Feb 2003 ):

Like I mentioned in an earlier post, ActiveBuddy is testing a new chatterbot called ToBeSmarterChild on AOL's Instant Messenger. The new SmarterChild will add more personalized and in-depth services, like reminders, an always-on notebook for jotting down ideas, and a way to leave messages for AIM users who are offline. There's another addition as well: a subscription fee, likely to be about $10 per year! There's no news whether this IM bot will be available to MSN Messenger users as well. Might be interesting though. [Source: InstantMessagingPlanet.com]

Looking back: January 2003

dwergs says ( 31 Jan 2003 ):

It's been an amazing initial month of the year 2k3 for Mess.be with over 60 news posts (at least one every day, even while some of us had exams), fresh add-ons and new site features. Not to mention it was the first time we exceeded the one million peak of unique visitors in a single month (according to eXTReMe Tracking). Big thanks to all contributors & visitors and see you guys in February (tomorow)! :D

Windows Messenger 5 is coming to town
Windows Messenger 5 is coming to town

timothy says ( 30 Jan 2003 ):

Net2Phone has pseudo-confirmed that Microsoft is going to release Windows Messenger 5 in the near feature in a mail to its subscribers.

“As a customer who makes phone calls with .Net Voice Services, we thought you would like to know about a significant change that is occurring to the service. .NET Voice Services is going to be removed from Windows Messengerwhen it is next released. If you choose to upgrade to the new Windows Messenger, the ability to "Make a Phone Call" will be removed.”
(Read more about this e-mail here.)

This means that when Windows Messenger 5 is released there will be the possibility to create add-ons again for XP with the 5.x version.

 Serial slash Mass Contact Adder
Serial slash Mass Contact Adder

Johnny_Mac says ( 30 Jan 2003 ):

I was first made aware of this issue over on the MSN Fanatic Forums, and what seemed to be an isolated problem is rapidly gathering pace. I know this has already happened to a handful of people, and the number seems to be growing hourly. The problem occurs when logging into your MSN/Windows Messenger - you are instantly prompted to add hundreds, if not thousands of contacts to your Messenger list. The e-mail address adding you on each occasion has a slight variation, and looks something like this: gjrenaqgnjrknkrerejreregjtrengjkn@treghjknghtknrhjkntrwhjn.com.

Jonathan Kay over on the Microsoft Newsgroups has confirmed Microsoft are dealing with the issue as at the moment they is no solution to solve the problem. Anyone this affects is advised to contact the Microsoft Newsgroups by clicking here.

This means Bell Canada customers can instant message any of their MSN Messenger online contacts from around the world directly from their cell phones, using either two-way text messaging or Mobile Browser, Bell Mobility’s wireless Internet service. Away Message Compo first 5 winners

dwergs says ( 29 Jan 2003 ):

The first five winners of our Away Messages competition have been selected: Bob [who's e-mail starts with theun...], Brian [who's e-mail starts with fay...], Keystorm, Beckywinn and Bibi [who's e-mail starts with bad...].

These people should've received an e-mail by now with further instructions on how to obtain the license key they've won for DirectTalk, the voice and video chat connectivity tool from JDSoft (which has been updated to v1.2 by the way).

If you're not among the winners yet, don't worry. I have A LOT of submissions left to approve and even if your away message is already included, you still have a chance to win a license key.

dwergs says ( 27 Jan 2003 ):

Did you know...

Slate is MSN's online political & cultural news magazine and it offers extremely customized MSN Alerts for updates in the "departements" of your choice (I've opted for "Gizmos" & "Bushisms", LOL), new articles by specific authors and also replies to posts you make in their discussion forum. I wish more sites would offer such a service [Source: Slate]

 New poll: net language
New poll: net language

dwergs says ( 26 Jan 2003 ):

"Students raised with computers and cellular phones are coming to class with a language of their own. In fact, some educators say, new technologies are influencing not just the way their students write, but the way they think."

New poll question is: "Have you ever used "net language" (like LOL, ppl, u,...) in school/work assignments by accident?" Click here to vote.
