 MSN 5 API
MSN 5 API

timothy says ( 26 Oct 2002 ):

After I read the hysteria about postponing MSN Plus version 2.0 I started to write little article, that will help you to start creating add-ons for MSN 5 and understand the new MSN 5 setup. I hope I can help many people with this, But itís not a 100% guarantee it will work, though this is the way we should go now. Just take a look on the article. I will keep you informed about feature updates. If you want to ask things or add things to it post it in this blog.

dwergs says ( 26 Oct 2002 ):

Johnny_Mac reports that if Plus! 2.0 can't be completed (more info below), Patchou will definitely release a fix for Messenger Plus! 1.42 to make it completely compatible with MSN 5.0. Keep your eyes on this space!

 Plus! postponed :(
Plus! postponed :(

dwergs says ( 26 Oct 2002 ):

Some sad sad news from the Plus! front...

Patchou says:
Messenger 5.0 has been released. I hoped Microsoft would keep backward compatibility of their public programming interface but it does not seem to be the case. I'm actively searching for a way to go around it. Any information would be very appreciated. If I can't access the API, the only place Messenger Plus! 2.0 will go will be the Recycled Bin! :(.

I'll keep you informed, in the mean time, development has been postponed.

I want to express my sincere thanks to all the messers who have massively responded to the Exit Blog Advertisement Help. Let us ask ourself the question: Who didn't see "http://www.mess.be Rules" (or a similar sentence) in that tunnel. The rumours are we simply rule ;-)... But it's nothing important, we are just messing around.

It's litter with the butterfly

dwergs says ( 25 Oct 2002 ):

It's litter with the butterfly: Microsoft was fined after one of its local marketing teams posted hundreds of "butterflies" on signs, sidewalks and buildings across New York City to increase the awareness of MSN8. Unlike many other cities, this practice is forbidden in NYC. Bad! Bad! Bad! [Source: Internetnews.com]

It is finally here! MSN Messenger 5 has been released today! Get it now at the MSN Messenger website. Click here to find out what's new. Warning: a lot of add-ons and bots don't work with MSN 5 (eg. some functions in Plus!). Stick to your current version if you need them badly. Compatible updates will most probably be released later.  MSN 5 bots
MSN 5 bots

timothy says ( 23 Oct 2002 ):

A little note to the bot and add-on programmers out there: MSN 5 Does not have a pre-installed API. So it will be more difficult to make new add-ons. It still holds the old API from the 4.6+ versions, but the old 1.0 Type Library has been removed. The other API has to be patched manually since it will not link itself to your application in the registry. This means you will have to learn the new API (and provide a registry patch in your app for msn 5) or you will have to learn the Windows API and make apps the hard way.

 MSN Messenger 5 Build 5.0.537
MSN Messenger 5 Build 5.0.537

Nicholas says ( 23 Oct 2002 ):

MSN Messenger 5 Build 5.0.537 has been leaked, we are not yet certain this will be the final release.

This version is 10 builds ahead of the last known leak and so far has not been officially released by Microsoft. It is currently on their servers however and as the release date for MSN 8 and MSN messenger 5 are only a few days away this will most likely be the release build.

This version connects faster than the 4.7 builds currently supported by Microsoft as well as being able to send files out beyond a router without doing manual configuration of ports.

Yesterday Microsoft entered the mobile phone market with its Windows Smartphone OS, backed up by mobile operator Orange. Smartphone based handsets will appear in the UK starting October 28th already! AT&T will do the job for the US mid-2003. You can preview the Orange SPV or the Sendo & Compal models (look at those colors!) Ofcourse I wouldn't be telling you this if it weren't for the pre-installed MSN Messenger. [Source: Unstrung]
