MenthiX just informed me that Mess.be, as well as our free content installer CustoMess and the MSN Custom Games (use Mess Patch to add them) were mentioned in the January edition of Dutch computer magazine Clickx. Ahmad was so kind to scan in the page.

Have you spotted Mess.be or any of our addons in a magazine, TV or other medium? Let us know via this form, no matter how long ago. If you're working for the media, also feel free to get in touch with us.

Windows Live Messenger Beta refresh shortly
Windows Live Messenger Beta refresh shortly

dwergs says ( 24 Feb 2006 ):

As you know, Windows Live Messenger v8.0.0562 was released exclusively to selected Beta-testers earlier this month. Fortunately for WLM users (including invitees) a new build very similar to 0562 is now imminent. It could've been released already, if it wasn't for weather-inflicted damage to many offices in Redmond last weekend. So, if you're currently using Windows Live Messenger 8.0.0365, expect an auto-update prompt in one of the next couple of days.

We also silently updated PoTaToX's unofficial Dutch translation for 0562.

Ten million Britons use MSN Messenger
Ten million Britons use MSN Messenger

dwergs says ( 23 Feb 2006 ):

united kingdom msn messenger usersNot exactly surprising news, but Web User today reports that MSN Messenger is the "most used Instant Messaging service in the UK, with a sixth of the UK population using the service". The number of users rose by 29 per cent in just two years, making the UK (together with France and Sweden) one of the few European countries with more Messenger than Hotmail users. The total of ten million users have an average of 51 buddies on their contact list and send more than 3.7 billion messages each year.

People from the UK are also our most frequent visitors, with 19% of all Messers "surfing in Britain".

Spleak, the female AI bot for MSN and Windows (Live) Messenger, has learned to play a new game called Code Breaker, better known to you and me as "Master Mind". Type games when talking to her to start a game.

msn chatbotWe mentioned before that Spleak can be your personal English teacher. You can go through a line of different tests on articles, adjectives, adverbs, irregular verbs, etc. and at the end of each test, you will be given your test score as well as your total score. Just ask teach me English.

Finally, from now on the more you talk to Spleak, the more SpleakPoints you will get. Collect a lot of them to appear in the top 10 charts of the SpleakOmeter. I'm pretty sure that in the future some kind of competition will be linked to this... Ah, we'll see.

Custom Domain owners offered Mail Beta invites
Custom Domain owners offered Mail Beta invites

dwergs says ( 23 Feb 2006 ):

Those who (have) set up their own domain name to work with the Windows Live Custom Domains service (in Beta since November) will be offered 40 invites for the Windows Live Mail Beta. These invites can be used to turn your existing users' Hotmail accounts into the all-new Mail Beta which sports drag & dropping, a 2GB inbox, etc. Please note that it will take about two weeks after accepting the invite before Live Mail will actually replace the current Hotmail.

Windows Live Custom Domains integrates seamlessly with MSN Messenger in the sense that you can get e-mail alerts and the unread e-mails count for e-mail accounts using your own domain name(s) and without the need of an addon (like Messenger Plus!).

Dutch MSN Magazine cuts back on publishing frequency
Dutch MSN Magazine cuts back on publishing frequency

dwergs says ( 20 Feb 2006 ):

The MSN Magazine, launched last year by the Dutch MSN subsidiary, was originally meant to be published 10 times a year. Though because of some "technical reasons" (as they call it) the yearly publishing frequency has been reduced to six issues. Those who have in the past subscribed for 10 issues will still recieve what they've paid for, but just over a longer length of time.

Up until now four issues have already hit magazine stores across The Netherlands and subscribers can also download a special Sony PSP-version of the magazine to read on-the-go (check this for a mini demo). It is still unsure whether this project will be adapted in other countries. Then again, we don't think the international MSN Messenger community (especially a frequent Messer) is missing out on much.
