 Today: Live Meeting with MSN Messenger Team!

It's been a while, but today at 10 AM PST (when's that in your timezone?) you'll have another chance to talk directly with the people behind MSN Messenger! The topic of the meeting will be the MSN Messenger World's Best App contest and thus the MSN Messenger API. "We'll walk you through the process to create and upload an app as well as answer FAQs about the contest," the website states. The reason for this chat is mainly the The 5 Day Bonus Challenge, an extra incentive to drive the first developers to submit their apps. Microsoft is awarding $200 Amazon.com gift certificates to the first five apps that are submitted and approved between now and October 23rd. Some of you already showed me some good stuff, so I'm sure a couple of Messers are gonna grab these certificates with their eyes closed.  Rolando surprises with Windows Longhorn/Vista skin

Succeeding yesterday's skin duo, Rolando adds another MSN Messenger 7.5 compatible MSN Messenger skin to his resume. He based MSN Slate on the Slate theme from Longhorn build 4051. You have to admit, the skin resembles Windows Longhorn/Vista more than it reminds you of MSN Messenger. Not an inch was left visually unchanged and while Rolando was at it, he added convenient command shortcuts in a couple of brand new menus.  MSN Messenger 8.0 BETA sign-up page removed

Either Microsoft gathered enough volunteers for the MSN Messenger 8 BETA program, or what's more likely, the basic sign-up page we linked yesterday simply wasn't supposed to be advertised yet and has been removed. The first Messer who receives a confirmation from Microsoft after registering, let me know. But I wouldn't keep your hopes up... [Reported by: crank]

This can mean only one thing: he updated his liplicking Penguin MSN skin for the latest version of MSN Messenger.  Microsoft-Yahoo alliance food for IM worms

The MSN-Yahoo! Messenger marriage announced last Wednesday is not all milk and honey. According to Akonix spokesman Don Montgomery, one of the downsides is that a worm could proliferate further and faster on the combined network: "The need for security rises as we now have a much bigger network and much more usage." The alliance could turn up the heat on people using Yahoo IM. Microsoft's network is the most popular object of IM worms, as 62 percent of attacks in the third quarter this year were aimed at MSN Messenger or Windows Messenger, IMlogic reported earlier this month. In the same period, only 7 percent of IM worms went after Yahoo Messenger. "Worms that are traditionally targeting MSN will also target the Yahoo users," said Jon Sakoda, chief technology officer at messaging security company IMlogic. Both companies are aware of the danger ahead and "share a commitment to deliver IM interoperability while keeping consumer security, safety and privacy top of mind," said Brooke Richardson, a lead product manager for MSN. >> More on MSN Messenger worms. Huuf, known from MSN Ripper and Freemoticons (for MSN Messenger 6) amongst other things, is auctioning off his MSN Messenger Wink Keyring which he obtained from MSN at the CEBit fair in Hannover, Germany. He has no use for it anymore, and would like to give an MSN Messenger fan the opportunity to collect the useful, plastic promotional gadget. >> Bid on the Wink Keychain (eBay account required).
